Grand Cayman: Truly Paradise

Grand Cayman is globally famous especially amongst tourists for its spectacular attractions like diving and snorkeling. It is the largest of the three Cayman Islands. Other two islands are Cayman Barc and Little Cayman. All three islands are located in western Caribbean Sea and governed as British overseas territory. The biggest tragedy with this island is lack of natural fresh water. Besides that, it was severely devastated by hurricane Ivan in 2004. In spite of such glaring disasters, it is shining on the horizon of tourism industry.

Tourism Industry in Grand Cayman

Tourism in Grand Cayman shares approximately 50% of GDP. Beside stunning locations, island offer fine dining, drinking, diving, snorkeling, lodging and shopping facilities.

9)	Cayman Turtle Farm is famous for its wide varieties of turtle collections. From tiniest to over 400 pounds weighted turtles are available here. 10)	Cemetery Beach is located on the northern end of seven mile beach. It is simply gorgeous spot with snorkeling right off shore. 11)	Cayman Island national museum, Cayman Maritime treasure museum and Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park are very close to each other and hence, it becomes the major tourist hub of the island. 12)	Festivals like Batabano, Gimistory, and Pirates Week Festival fall in the month of April and November. These festival seasons induce huge tourist inflow in the island. 13)	The most alluring moment for youngsters is available here in form of rental cars and scooters. But, your age must be 21 years or above. 14)	Cruise ships are another great enjoyable experience here. George Town is immensely popular port especially for a many cruise lines in western Caribbean itineraries. 15)	Cayman Islands vacation is famous for golf as well. Usually, five star resort culture is extremely popular here amongst golf lovers. Numerous fantastic golf centers are located here and each one is equally good. These centers are also famous for international golf events. 16)	Underwater tourist spots may be a strange and incredible idea but it is possible here in Stingray city. It is made up of series of shallow water sand bars. It provides exclusive opportunity to interact with marine animals.

Weather & Tourism in Grand Cayman

Average temperature of the island revolves around 29-390c during summer. In winter it falls up to 190c and average remains 200c. Oceanic trench in this island has exceptional visibility. So, temperature and visibility creates here an ideal situation for scuba diving.

Thus, Grand Cayman Island is certainly a grand tourist location. Here are wide varieties of attractions right from stunning sights to beaches and golf courses. Ideal climate condition is additional advantage with this island. Even government is paying sincere attention towards tourism here and prominently helping in infrastructure development. It was obvious as well because more than 50% total GDP comes from tourism industry.

Austria More Than A Winter Destination

Most of us are used to think that Austria is mainly a winter destination and the first things that come in mind are Alps, skiing, snowboarding. But is it really like this? Actually, the beautiful nature of the country reveals itself in all seasons, but winter!

When I think of Austria, the first thing that comes to my mind is the Austrian Alps. Maybe just about everyone knows that Austria is one of the best places to go during the winter. It has countless winter resorts with amazing surroundings, perfect ski tracks suitable for all ages and difficulties and many more sport facilities in case you are not into skiing. For the tired skier or just for everyone who would like to relax and have fun, there are many suitable places to do it - from big swimming pools to hot bath-tubs and restaurants with specialties from around the world.

But if you think that Austria is only for the winter ... think again! If you prefer taking a holiday especially for skiing, you can do so even in the summer with the help of the gorgeous Austrian glaciers. One of the most famous glaciers is the one in the Stubai Valley - the Stubai Glacier. It is visible even from the road and can be a remarkable view even for non-skiers. Other perfect places for skiing in the summer are the Kaprun Glacier and Pasterze Glacier, which unfortunately is decreasing in size in the last years. And if you are keen on the big things than the largest glacier in Austria is for you - the Hintertux glacier.

In Austria there are also magnificent hiking trails, revealing a huge part of the country beauties. A beautiful place is Zell am See with its Hohe Tauern mountain range, the Zeller Lake and its belonging marked trails, suitable for both beginners and experts. There is also available biking, sailing and more. I am not going to give more examples of hiking trails because they are numerous in almost every resort in Austria and they surely bring the atmosphere of the amazing nature there.

If you are a nature lover I can recommend here only a small fraction of the many nature reserves in Austria. One of them is located just north of the city Innsbruck - the Karwendel nature reserve. The Karwendel mountain range is part of the Alps and can reveal many breath-taking types of scenery. Another one is the Purgschachener Moor Nature Reserve which is in Styria, near Irdning / Ennstal and offers wonderful moments in fresh air. One can also visit the National Park Nockberge - part of the oldest mountain regions in Austria. Of course as far as culture is concerned the capitol Vienna is simply outstanding!

No matter where you are from, keep in mind while planning your holiday that nature is always perfect in every season. And I can assure you that one of the best places to go and see it is Austria. Whether you like skiing, hiking, looking from the top of a high mountain or just relaxing under the sun on the bank of a lake - it is all there just for you.

Travel Trends

Travel trends have been changing over the past years. People are moving towards from big hotel complexes to boutique hotels. People used to choose big hotel complexes because they would find all the amenities they are looking for in one place from concierge to swimming pool to a convenient store. However, in the past years, this trend changed and "the experience "itself ''became more important. People are looking for unique memories that they can take back to. People are also looking for more "local experiences'' that are local and authentic. Boutique hotels offer this kind of experience, the service is personalized, and the staff gets to know you and cares about you as a person. Few years ago, I went to a resort and all I can remember is the buildings and amenities. Few weeks ago, I went to a boutique hotel in Kas/Turkey and I can remember not only the beauty of the nature but also the owner whom we had great talks and discussions and Cafer who always anticipated our needs before we even told him. I know that if we had gone to a big hotel complex, they would not even remember us but if we go to this small hotel in Kas again, they will remember us and treat us like their "friends''. I have also had the same type in experience in Cuba when I stayed in places called ''casa" where you stay with local people. I learned about the culture, learned about the people that live there and how they live and do things. You can not get this experience in a big hotel complex.

Tourism is emotional and tieing your guests to your place emotionally is the success. Every hotel, every complex has more or less the same amenities; what differs is the people and the personalized service.

Turkey is promoted as a mass tourism in Europe. Therefore, low budget tourist is attracted to Turkey. Tourists are paying 500 euros for a 5 star all inclusive resort including the flight from and to Belgium. They come to Turkey and only see the resort complex and go back to their countries without having the "real experience''. By real experience I mean doing the local things, seeing local places, going to local cafes and restaurants and sites that local people go to and learning about the culture from local people. Most of the tourists in Turkey do not even know the existence of different experiences they can live in Turkey from staying in cave houses from 6th century in Cappadocia, to staying in a village house in Fethiye and experiencing the village life with locals to staying in a mansion by North Sea to staying in a small hotel by the beautiful blue Mediterranean.

You might think that these kinds of experiences would cost you a lot but actually in Turkey it does not. You have to be a clever tourist and do research but just to give you an example, the big hotel complex I stayed cost me about 600 Euros for one week. The boutique hotel in Kas cost me 300 Euros per week and it was a much better experience than the one I had in that big hotel complex. The small boutique hotel in Kas made me want to stay there and want to go back every year. This is the kind of experience that you should look for when searching a place to stay.

Special Places in Turkey brings the "real experience" to your fingertips. The boutique hotels are chosen very carefully and since it is a non-profit website at the moment, even if you want to pay and want to be on this site, if you do not fit the concept, you can not be on this website. You can choose to stay in a cave house from the 6th century or stay in a village and live the life of people who live in small villages. You can stay in a historical mansion and listen to the stories of the mansion from the owner. All the places have a character, something special about them whether if it is the history or the experience and all these places offer you the real Turkish hospitality with local people.

Evrim Erdem-Asma

Way Offshore Bottom Fishing

Way Offshore Bottom Fishing For Black Sea Bass at Virginia Beach

If you're ever in the Tidewater Virginia area, you simply must take a way offshore fishing trip from the Virginia Beach fishing Center at Rudee Inlet. They're located at 200 Winston Salem Ave. (757-491-8000). Ask about Rudee Tours. You'll find a full service marina which offers head boats, daily fishing charters, beach parking, and a full service store. You can also find and book a decent hotel at www.affordabletravelagents.com. These way offshore trips are different than regular offshore trips. The most noticeable difference is the price, but when you see the size, and quality of your catch, you'll see it was money well spent. These trips usually start in late winter, and continue through February (depending on what the captain says). The head boat fleet is the finest in Virginia Beach. The targeted fish on this particular trip is the coveted Black Sea Bass, an excellent dining choice. The meat is flaky and white. I like them fried, grilled, or stuffed with shrimp, crabmeat and baked. This popular bottom fish can be caught in and around wrecks, and on rocky bottoms. Its appearance is black with bluish green specks. You should handle these fish with care because of their stiff dorsal fins. They can really hurt. They average 1-2 pounds, but the way offshore trips will yield larger catches. I have caught fish in the 5 pound range. You'll work plenty hoisting them off the bottom, but what fun you'll have doing it. (A helpful hint) Don't wait until the boat stops to get your rigs tied, and hooks baited. When the captain says, "drop'em," make sure you're ready to do just that, and you won't regret it, especially on the first 2 or 3 stops. That's when you really catch'em. Also, if you get hung in the wreck, just let out about 8-10 ft. of line, then start reeling it in like crazy. If that doesn't work, yell for the mate. You don't have to worry about licenses, bait or even a rod and reel for that matter. At the Virginia Beach Fishing Center, they've got it all covered. All you need is about $120, some guts, a cooler for lunch, beer, or whatever you require, and it's on. Oh, and a few extra bucks for the mates. They work hard for your tips. These captains are safety first. They won't take chances with your life to make a buck. I learned this first hand when I booked a way offshore trip. I paid the man, climbed aboard, and off into the cold dark and misty December morning we motored. About 1 hour into our 3-4 hour trek, the captain informed us that due to rough seas, (which we hadn't run into yet), we would be returning to Rudee Inlet, where he would refund our money, and take us out another day. Well, I don't know about you, but given the choice, I choose the captain who doesn't wait until he's 55 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach in rough seas to realize he's more than way offshore, he's in way over his head. Frankly speaking, if it's rough seas, or bad weather ahead, and El Capitan knows this? That's not the time to be profit driven or ruled by the male ego. Lord knows I love fishing, but at the end of the day, I wanna go hooooome! So, go to www.affordabletravelagents.com to book yourself a nice hotel, (because after one of these trips you won't feel like driving) and upon your return, shower, have dinner, check out the high energy night life, get good nights sleep and head home the next day. You will have had a safe and adventurous fishing trip off the coast of Virginia Beach, with plenty to show for it. Finally, check out the fish cleaning station to the right as you disembark. For a nominal fee they'll clean your catch so all you have to do is put'em on ice. Happy fishing!

Vietnam Travel: Meet & Greet in Vietnam

What you should do when meeting Vietnamese at the first time? These are some general notes which help you to be polite with Vietnamese culture and people.

Greeting People Most of the Vietnamese in urban areas no longer bow when they meet each other. In formal gatherings, at religious place, and sometimes in the country areas, one may see the people clasp their hands together in a prayer-like gesture and bow slightly. This is not practiced to any extent in everyday life in Vietnam as it is in neighboring Thailand.

The custom of handshaking, formerly considered barbaric to the Vietnamese, is now achieving popularity due to the Western influence in the country. Men will generally shake hands and say the equivalent of "how are you" and tip their hats when greeting people. Women, especially those in the countryside, still shy away from shaking hands, especially with men from their own country. It is best not to offer to shake hands with a woman unless she offers her hand first.

Introductions Whereas Americans often immediately introduce themselves in given situations, the ordinary people of Vietnam think this to be rather bold and like to have a mutual acquaintance make the introduction. They will rarely introduce themselves when going into a home or office until asked to do so. This may be due to their innate shyness and modesty.

Names carry great importance in Vietnam. Often Vietnamese will have secret names, known only to themselves and their parents. If it is given away, the person believes he is exposed to evil spirits. Except in rare cases, family names are seldom used outside of the family circle. Children are often called names in rank of birth, such as Chi-hai, Chi-ba (daughter two, daughter three).

One should call Vietnamese people by Mr., Mrs., or Miss until asked to go on a first name basis. They do not do this as quickly as Americans in their relationships with people. Especially important, when in the company of a third person, your friend must be called by his name with a Mr., Miss, or Mrs. proceeding it, as the case may be. If this is not done, it may suggest great intimacy or friendliness, or can also be interpreted as being arrogant treatment of the individual by a superior.

Most Vietnamese names consist of a family name, middle name and a personal or given name. The order is reverse to the American custom. For instance, John Paul Jones' name in Vietnamese style would be Jones Paul John. However, we do not call someone by his family name in Vietnam. If we use the names for instance, Miss Hau Dinh Cam. Hau is the family name. We would call her Miss Cam. Jones Paul John would be Mr. John. On very informal occasions, we might at their request call them Cam or John, but would always add a Miss or Mr. to the name in the presence of other people outside of the group.

An exception to this rule dates back to traditional customs of long ago when beloved leaders were called by their family names.

It is desirable to call Vietnamese professional and government officials by their title, i.e., Mr. Assemblyman, Mr. Doctor, Mr. Lieutenant, etc.

Taboos in Personal Relationships It is best to call to people in a quiet voice, using their names preceded by Mr. Mrs., or Miss. Waving or beckoning with an upturned finger is considered highly impolite. If you must silently signal for someone to come toward you, do so by using the whole hand with the palm turned down. Not to do so would indicate an air of authority or superiority over the person being called or beckoned.

Never touch anyone on the head as this would be considered as a personal insult to the individual and perhaps even to his ancestors. Many Vietnamese believe the spirit resides there. Hence, the belief is that if a person is beheaded, his spirit will roam forever without finding a resting place. Also, don't touch anyone on the shoulder. Some people believe that a genie resides there and it is undesirable to disturb him. If you mistakenly touch one shoulder, you must also touch the other shoulder and this helps offset the bad luck.

Confusing Personal Traits of Vietnamese Vietnamese people have a habit of not looking into your eyes when they talk to you. This is often because of shyness, but one of the main reasons is that traditionally they do not look into the eyes of those they respect or those higher in rank when talking to them. This is to indicate politeness.

The smile of a Vietnamese can be very confusing in Vietnam to an outsider and cause misunderstandings. In some Oriental countries, a smile can mean sorrow, worry, or embarrassment. In Vietnam, it may indicate a polite, but perhaps skeptical reaction to something, compliance or toleration of a blunder or misunderstanding, or on occasion represents submission to judgment that may be wrong or unfair. This is particularly true if the one making the judgment is at a superior level and perhaps has lost his temper. For instance, a laundress may ruin a favorite shirt and is called in by her employer to be asked about it. She may smile. This does not mean that she thinks it is funny that she burned the shirt, but instead is submission to the fact. If the owner of the shirt loses his temper, she may keep smiling indicating politeness or patience with superiors.

Because of this, foreigners should be very cautious in voicing their opinions and perhaps be a little more delicate, more tolerant and restrain from being obstinate.

Loud arguments or heated discussions are frowned upon and are seldom heard among the Vietnamese. Well-bred people are trained in self-discipline. It is best, therefore, for Americans or other foreigners to do their best to keep tempers in check, no matter what the circumstances, lest they be looked upon with disdain.

Vietnamese seldom use a direct approach in their dealings. To do so indicates a lack of tact or delicacy. Directness is appreciated in the Western world, but not in Vietnam. The Vietnamese do not like to say "no" and will often reply "yes" when the answer should be negative. This problem is further complicated by Americans posing negative questions such as, "It doesn't look like it will rain today, does it?" The correct answer is often the one given by the Vietnamese--"Yes." We expect to hear "No." Think it out and you will see that the Vietnamese is really correct.

Best advice, don't ask negative questions.

Hospitality The Vietnamese love to be hospitable and will often invite you to dinner. If gifts are taken for the family, they should be items that they could not easily obtain themselves. To take something that they could buy easily would be a bad reflection on their economic means. They love anything from western countries, and it does not have to be expensive. If you give the children things, each should have a separate gift. It is not polite to take a whole bag of candy and give it to them as a group.

On short visits, drink the tea that is offered, even if you don't like it and are afraid of the local water. It shows that you are welcome and well respected.

Rank is always carefully observed by the Vietnamese in their homes and elsewhere. Servants never sit at the same table with their employers if outsiders are present, and only in rare cases otherwise.

On some occasions at an informal meal, the whole family except for the person inviting you to dinner, may get up from the table and eat elsewhere. This is not a show of disrespect for you but is simply a way of letting the guest spend time with his special friend.

At banquets, one should arrive on time and greet elderly persons first. If the dinner is served Chinese style, food should be transferred from the main bowl to your individual bowl before eating. It is impolite to eat anything with your chopsticks directly from the serving bowl. A guest may refrain from taking something he doesn't like, but if the hostess serves it to you unknowingly, force it down if at all possible. If the guest refuses, the host may doubt his sincerity and coax him even more. Individual bowls are usually changed with each course and are generally removed only when empty, except the last course. Here, a little something should be left to indicate to the host that there was enough food and everyone is satisfied.
